Edward S. Rogers Sr. envisioned radio as an electric pipeline, reaching into people's homes to entertain, inform, and educate. In 1924, Rogers invented the world's first successful alternating current (A/C) radio tube, which enabled radios to be powered by ordinary household current. This was a dramatic milestone, as it improved radio reception which helped popularize radio, and placed Canada at the forefront of radio technology for that era. In 1925, Mr. Rogers perfected the world's first all-electric radio, using his a/c tubes, and introduced his radio sets at the Canadian National Exhibition. Mr. Rogers expanded further in 1927 with the launch of radio station CFRB - the world's first all-electric broadcaster. In 1928, Mr. Rogers formed a partnership with the Grigsby-Grunow Company of Chicago to create a new enterprise in Canada, christened as the Rogers-Majestic Corporation.

By 1929, Rogers-Majestic was the largest radio manufacturer in Canada, and one of the most modern in the world, while CFRB stood as the most powerful broadcaster in the nation, with the broadest range. Mr. Rogers won a license to experiment with television in 1931, and predicted this would become a common household device long before its development was completed. Edward Rogers died in 1939, but his innovation is recognized as a breakthrough that linked Canadians from coast to coast, fostering in society the understanding that communication technology is a critical component of thriving economies.
